SUMMARY:
Global climate change and sustainability issues are generally recognised as the most important challenges facing the human race today. However, how to make these issues and their solutions part of the consciousness of the general public is acknowledged as a critical question, and dealing successfully with this a key requirement for any viable strategy to tackle climate change.
The project aims to make a significant contribution to tackling this problem by developing and piloting an innovative immersive system that merges real and virtual environments and provides an engaging and stimulating setting for these questions and their solutions to be explored, and for deep learning experiences to be created that can generate motivation and involvement for a wide range of users.
The system developed will be portable, with the ability to recreate the environment with appropriate tailoring in other settings, making it applicable to a wide range of potential locations. Furthermore, the underlying technology and software will be adaptable to create systems based on other scenarios that could be used for learning on a wide range of environmental issues.
